Most social commerce applications focus on sharing purchased items or using the Facebook Like button to share items with friends, requiring a high commitment. MetaLinQ's PinChoose (TM) allows shoppers to easily "pin" and compare items on a retailer's web site and then choose how to share with friends for feedback on Facebook, Twitter, or via email.

MetaLinQ will preview a new social commerce tool at NRF / shop.org Innovate 2011, the retail innovation and marketing conference of the National Retail Federation. The tool is called PinChoose (TM), which allows shoppers to easily view what their friends have looked at and ask friends for opinions while shopping online.

Once added to a retailer’s site, PinChoose allows online shoppers at that site to graphically “pin” items they like with a single click. The items display on a toolbar at the bottom of the shopper’s screen on the retailer’s site, as if the shopper “set aside” the items in a store. The shopper can also see items pinned by friends, friends of friends and neighbors. PinChoose shoppers choose how they want to share their items, including asking friends on Facebook or sharing on Twitter. Other social commerce products only allow sharing of purchased items or sharing with the Facebook “Like” button. Sharing purchased items limits engagement because only 3-5% of total visitors make purchases on shopping sites. The Facebook “Like” button requires a high commitment and posts to all friends, which some shoppers are reluctant to do. According to MetaLinQ CEO Alex Hisen, “The detailed and flexible sharing with PinChoose not only results in higher sharing rates but also higher subsequent click-through and conversion rates.”

With PinChoose, retailers can publish a day’s most-pinned items to Facebook in real time and set up a system of custom shopper loyalty “badges” for pinning and liking items, inviting friends and other activities, making the shopping process more fun, and encouraging more traffic and purchases. PinChoose is available for limited beta testing opportunities for select retailers.

Founded in 2008, MetaLinQ is a provider of shopping productivity tools for online retailers. In addition to PinChoose, MetaLinQ provides QuickLooQTM, a rich product presentation widget that provides a quick view popup on category pages, Facebook or blog pages, and Express Checkout, a widget that substantially reduces checkout abandonment.
