A video of a gardener from London breaking a world record on a high speed sofa has been a surprise online hit, having been viewed on You Tube more than 70,000 times, uploaded to countless other video sharing sites, featured on The Sun Online and carried by 2,000 bloggers.

London, UK (PRWEB) June 8, 2007 -- A video of a gardener from London breaking a world record on a high speed sofa has been a surprise online hit, having been viewed on You Tube more than 70,000 times, uploaded to countless other video sharing sites, featured on The Sun Online and carried by 2,000 bloggers.

And now the brilliant final edit, which features a high speed spin, has today been uploaded by the sponsor. See it at www.sofa.com/sofarecord.

Marek Turowski, 38, from South London, won an eBay charity auction run by Sofa.com for the privilege of being behind the wheel, with cash going to The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths.

The previous record of 87mph was set in 1998 by engineer Ed China - the man who built the new wacky machine for company sofa.com.

Despite being disappointed about seeing his crown slip, he added: "At least I still have the constructor's title to boast about."

The record attempt was witnessed and verified by a representative of The Guinness Book of World Records and the feat will appear in the next published edition.

The record was broken in May at Bruntingthorpe Aerodrome in Lutterworth Leicestershire on a two mile long 60 metre wide racing straight normally used to test top-secret specialist Ministry of Defence projects.
