The core is always the first muscle group to fire and get in the game. It is essential to train the core to keep getting better in the sport of softball.

Unlike more conventional softball camps in the past, this year's summer programs have a new emphasis that will be shared with 2013 campers. NIKE Softball Camps assistant director for the Colorado locations, Eric Evans, explains that having a strong core is crucial to every athletic movement. In softball, the core is engared when pitching, hitting, fielding, or running the bases.

“The core is the part of the body that is responsible for transferring all of the power that is generated through the legs to the upper body. At the plate, if when a hitter gets fooled by a pitch –it is the core that allows he or she to still get a good swing on the ball. After fielding a ground ball, the core gives the fielder the enery to makie the throw across the diamond. The core is always the first muscle group to fire and get in the game. It is essential to train the core to keep getting better in the sport of softball.”

Eric Evans is the strength and conditioning coach for the Colorado Nike Softball Camps. Eric’s training career started in 1995 and became a specialist in 2003. In the past decade he has worked with Olympic athletes (2x gold medalist – Lori Harrigan), semipro football players, college/high school/youth level athletes, and is currently the strength and conditioning coach for the Denver Outlaws (MLL) and for the Denver East boys’ lacrosse program. Eric has the dynamic ability to both develop champions from a fitness & training standpoint, as well as developing the mindset and discipline that it takes to bring out the best in each player. He is a true professional in every sense of the word when it comes to training athletes and developing champions.

At Nike Softball Camps every facet of the game is covered - hitting, fielding, base running, team play and more. The goals is that performance as an overall player will improve, along with self-confidence but it is up to each player to take what they have learned and apply it to game time situations.
