Software company Anahata Technologies declares the Java Platform to be as more cost effective than Microsoft .NET

Pablo Rodriguez Pina, founder and co-director of the Perth (Australia) based software company Anahata Technologies Pty Ltd stated The Java Plaform as a more cost effective solution than Microsfot .NET for developing Desktop or Web based Enterprise Applications.

The director stated: “Java has shown a great backwards compatibility record while Microsoft seems to focus on releasing new features or new development platforms rather than re-engineering or improving their existing one ensuring legacy applications continue to work on the latest version”

Before the “dotcom” boom, Microsoft access was widely used for developing enterprise applications when Microsoft released the .NET platform a lot of developers and software companies shifted adopted the new platform. I have seen on the media several articles hinting Microsoft’s efforts to be moving towards HTML5 and Javascript and Visual C++. When offering software solutions to our clients, we need to look ahead and offer a platform with an optimistic future, we make this decision based the platform’s track record of backwards compatibility, road map and several aspects of the company managing the platform.

Oracle and IBM, who are the main sponsors of Java build most of their software products using the Java Platform and it is in their direct interest to move the platform forward and bring it to as many devices as possible.

Regarding C# language features: “We are aware of C# language features such as lambda expressions being very productive but the Java Roadmap looks bright in this regard, Oracle has outlined scheduled for the next 3 Java Releases (8,9 and 10) and it seems like lambda expressions, modularity and a better generics handling is underway”

The director of the Australian software company summarised the key aspects of their decision: “I could summarise the reasons for our choice in 5 key points:

1) Java has better platform compatibility
2) Cross platform .NET adoption would play against Microsoft’s main source of income
3) Oracle and IBM’s present and future are tightly dependant on Java
4) Java Roadmap looking bright, including some of C#’s most productive language features
