Intertek Opens New Lab in Southern California; Adds Photovoltaic Testing Center for Solar Panels
New photovoltaic lab provides market with much needed testing and certification capacity for solar panels.
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) December 19, 2008 -- Intertek (LSE: ITRK), a global leader in testing, inspection and certification services has announced the opening of a new testing and certification lab in Lake Forest, CA replacing its lab of 13 years in Laguna Niguel. Intertek moved into its new larger 29,000 square foot laboratory to increase capacity to meet rising demand for testing and certification services in the west region. The new facility houses Intertek's new regional center of excellence for testing of photovoltaic (solar) modules. What's more, Intertek's new southern CA lab significantly increases local testing capacity for all types of electrical manufacturers ranging from consumer electronics and HVAC to medical devices and lighting. The new facility also incorporates significant investments to build testing centers of excellence for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and medical devices and lighting products.
"The world political, economic and social environment has created an enormous demand for Renewable Energy solutions such as solar power," said Gregg Tiemann, chief executive of Intertek's Commercial and Electrical division. "Our new photovoltaic labs in Lake Forest, CA and Shanghai China are providing much needed market capacity for testing; ultimately helping to speed the introduction of these vital products to the market." In addition to photovoltaic modules, Intertek tests related Alternative Energy products such as inverters, wind turbines and components to a range of North American and international standards.
Additional Lab Capabilities
As part of Intertek's global network of more than 1,000 labs in 110 countries the new Lake Forest lab, provides manufacturers with local testing and certification for faster access to global markets. In addition to its photovoltaic testing center the lab includes a 3-meter immunity chamber and a 3-meter emissions chamber for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing, a "rain room" for testing products under a variety of environmental conditions, and dedicated labs for lighting, laser and gas appliance testing. There is an on-site client lounge which offers a productive workspace, food and beverages, comfortable seating, news and entertainment options.
