Over 5,000 printers shipped and $4 million in sales since launch

3D-printer company Solidoodle saw business grow through the first half of 2013, with over $4 million in total sales to date since its launch. The company saw massive growth in 2012 after announcing its $499 3D printer in the spring and the pre-sale of its larger $799 model in mid November. Sales have continued to increase after the 2012 holiday season, during what is traditionally a slower retail season for consumer electronics.

“This increase is due to the combination of a growing consumer interest in 3D printing and Solidoodle’s ability to deliver products that provide both the quality and value that market demands,” says Solidoodle founder and CEO Sam Cervantes.

Founded as a Brooklyn startup in September 2011, the nearly overnight success of the Solidoodle 2nd Generation printer pushed the company’s move to its current factory location in Brooklyn, NY, last spring. During the past twelve months, Solidoodle has also drastically reduced its factory lead time in the face of rising demand.

“The lead time was up to four months at one point for many of our initial customers, who were willing to wait for such a great product,” recalls Cervantes. “Now, we’re shipping all products in about two weeks and have started fulfilling bulk orders for international distributors while sales continue to pour in. Today, we have over 50 people under our roof, working on engineering, production, sales, support and marketing. It’s been a very busy year and this is just the tip of the iceberg.”

2013 developments have included the launch of the company’s most popular product, its larger Solidoodle 3rd Generation 3D printer, which can print up to eight-inch parts and began shipping in January. Solidoodle also added sleeker aluminum Z platforms and custom motherboards to all its printers for stronger builds and more reliable performance this year.

Solidoodle is expanding its primarily internet-based business to include distributors and resellers, with existing and developing partnerships in the UK, Russia, Asia, South America, and Canada. With customers now in over 60 countries, Solidoodle is proud to be part of a truly global phenomenon.
