The 25th Ethylene Producers Conference focuses on the manufacturing and technical topics of importance in the manufacture of ethylene. Presentations and workshops also will cover industry trends and emerging technologies.

Solomon Associates, the leading performance improvement company for the global energy industry, will be presenting twice at the 25th Ethylene Producers Conference, a topical conference being held April 28 to May 2, 2013, as part of the AIChE 2013 spring meeting in San Antonio, Texas.

Solomon’s Al Poling will present “Reliability and Maintenance Best Practices” on April 30. Poling is the project manager for Solomon Associates’ International Study of Plant Reliability and Maintenance Effectiveness (RAM Study).

“Reliability and maintenance best practices are not as revolutionary as you might think. Some practices touted as best are not being employed by best-performing companies,” Poling said. “Through the statistical analysis of more than 30 years of benchmarking data, Solomon has confirmed the correlation of reliability and maintenance practices to overall performance.”

Solomon Vice President of Chemical Studies Claire Cagnolatti will present “What Makes a High-Performing Plant (HPP) in Solomon’s Olefins Studies?” on April 30. The world’s olefin manufacturers—currently 70% of the production capacity—rely on Solomon’s biennial Worldwide Olefin Plant Performance Analysis (Olefin Study).
Like Poling, Cagnolatti will be speaking in the Lone Star meeting room at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio.

“This paper will show the actual average performance level of the high-performing plants from the most recent Olefin Study conducted for operating year 2011,” Cagnolatti said. “It will also discuss the criteria that go into the selection of HPPs, including how the study data are used to rate these criteria. The analysis will show some common characteristics of HPPs from the most recent Olefin Studies, including plant age, size, level of integration, and level of advanced process control.”

The AIChE Spring Meeting is a technical conference for practicing chemical engineers and is being held April 28 to May 2 in conjunction with the 9th Global Congress on Process Safety.
