We are honored to be featured so prominently by Zagat as one of the top Bay Area destinations for fine dining.

Contributors to Zagat, the foremost user-generated restaurant ratings provider, have recently recognized the beloved Sonoma restaurant of Madrona Manor, an elegant Victorian inn. The restaurant, run by celebrated chef Jesse Mallgren, was recently featured in a Reuters video interview with Tim Zagat on YouTube about the best hotel restaurants in the San Francisco area. And the new 2012 Zagat guide, released on Tuesday, gave the restaurant a very high 27 rating.

“We are honored to be featured so prominently by Zagat as one of the top Bay Area destinations for fine dining,” says Kevin West, manager of the Sonoma inn. “Zagat is one of the most trusted sources for restaurant recommendations, so their high opinion means a lot to us.”

In the Reuters YouTube video, Tim Zagat, founder of Zagat Restaurant Surveys, highlighted only three hotel restaurants in the San Francisco area. Out of all the possible Sonoma restaurants, he chose Madrona Manor. The video discusses Chef Mailgram’s cutting-edge cuisine offerings, such as his Onion Velouté with a 60° Celsius Egg.

In the recently published Zagat San Francisco Bay Area Restaurants 2012, Madrona Manor’s rating has gone up a notch from 26 to 27, out of a possible 30. The wine country restaurant is honored in the Top Food North of San Francisco category. It is also honored in the American, Outdoor Seating, Romance, and Sonoma County categories. But it’s not just the food that led Zagat reviewers to give Madrona Manor such a high rating; the restaurant is also awarded in the Top Décor and Top Service categories.

The new Zagat guide’s summary of member reviews highlights dinner at Madrona Manor as a sure way to “impress your date.” The guide praises the ambiance of the restaurant and of the “elegant” Victorian hotel and its “beautiful gardens.” The review calls the food “exquisite” and “beautifully plated” and the chef’s menu is deemed “wonderful.” The wine pairings are “well conceived and generous.” The guide notes that the service is “impeccable.”

In response to the honor, Chef Jesse announced on Twitter, “A huge thank you to my kitchen team. We earned a 27 food rating in this years @Zagat I could not do it without you.”

The new Zagat rating adds to the numerous honors bestowed upon Madrona Manor in recent years. Others include a One-Star Michelin rating three years in a row, a Top 100 Bay Area Restaurants honor from the San Francisco Chronicle in 2009, and glowing reviews from Wine Spectator and the Press Democrat, among others.
