Keith and Stacey Emerson, wine industry veterans with over 22 years experience combined, announce the launch of their new venture: Sonría Wines. The couple established Sonría Wines following the birth of their daughter Aubrey in 2009. Named for Aubrey’s smile, Sonría is derived from the Spanish verb Sonreír, which means, “to smile.”

The inaugural release, a 2009 Sonría Pinot Noir, is produced with fruit acquired from the esteemed Shea Vineyard located within the Yamhill-Carlton District viticultural area, a sub-appellation of the greater Willamette Valley AVA. The Sonría Pinot Noir is produced at Vineyard 29 in the Napa Valley, a technologically sophisticated facility that allows the grapes to be treated with tremendous care.

Keith Emerson comments, “I feel very fortunate to be able to produce Sonría at Vineyard 29. The facility and winemaking equipment allow me to treat the grapes and wine with the utmost attention to detail, yielding a finished product with explosive aromatics, the purest of fruit flavors and distinct varietal expression.”

Keith Emerson serves as Winemaker and President of Sonría Wines. Concurrently, Emerson is Director of Winemaking for Vineyard 29, winemaking consultant for Robert Craig Winery, as well as Winemaker for Gundlach Bundschu and Knighton Family Vineyards. Emerson is also partner of Emerson Brown Wines, a project started five years ago with friend and colleague Brian Brown of Round Pond Estate.

Stacey Emerson serves as Vice President of Sonría Wines and is responsible for marketing the brand. Prior to the birth of their daughter, Emerson facilitated marketing projects for Far Niente, and their family of brands Nickel & Nickel, Dolce and EnRoute. Emerson also served as Consultant to the California Assembly Select Committee on Wine and prior to that, worked at the Wine Institute, the public policy advocate for the California wine industry.
