Sound Ideas Releases MetaDigger, a Free Download to Organize MetaData for MP3 and BWAV Sound Files

MetaDigger is designed to make searching metadata a snap

"Until now audio engineers have either had to organize their sound files manually, or use fairly complex software to search the metadata," said company president Brian Nimens.

Sound Ideas, the company that offers the largest selection of sound effects libraries in the world, has announced the release of MetaDigger, a free metadata search tool. "Until now audio engineers have either had to organize their sound files manually, or use fairly complex software to search the metadata," said company president Brian Nimens. Complete audio file management systems typically include a search function, but according to Nimens, "If all you need to do is search metadata, a program like that might be overkill."

The MetaDigger software, which can be downloaded for free for Windows or Mac operating systems, can search and display metadata information for broadcast wav (BWAV) and mp3 files, as well as import, export, or edit a database of that information. "We included an audition feature to play the sound files to be used in conjunction with the database-editing features," said Nimens. "You can listen to the file and modify the database with additional keywords, notes, and ratings on the fly." The program also facilitates the creation of custom work folders for organizing a digital audio collection for specific projects.

Sound Ideas offers its royalty free music, production elements, and sound effects libraries on hard drives, some of which have over 200,000 files. MetaDigger makes it possible for sound engineers, videographers, and music or movie producers to identify the perfect sound file for any phase of a production. "All of our libraries include complete metadata information, but MetaDigger can be used with files from any source," said Nimens.

Founded in 1978, Toronto-based Sound Ideas was the first company to release sound effects libraries on compact disc, and the first to release the sound effects library of a major motion picture studio. The company continues to innovate new ways to provide high-quality sound files to the audio professionals who rely on them.
