Richard Kruse of Gryphon USA, Ltd. and Michael Snyder of the law firm of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick have collectively donated a starting balance of $2,000 to underwrite the Holiday Meal at Holy Family Soup Kitchen on Columbus, Ohio near west side. This years’ meal will take place on December 13, 2011.

Started in the 1970’s, it was a mission of Fr. Francis X. Schweitzer, former pastor at Holy Family, to feed the area’s hungry and homeless. Today the Soup Kitchen & Pantry, under the direction of Frances Carr, serves over 1,000 hot meals daily, Monday through Friday. An average of 250 families receive assistance from the Food Pantry each week.

“The Soup Kitchen and Francis Carr work every day to supply people with something many of us take for granted; a hot meal. It’s our job as community leaders to support organizations, such as Holy Family Soup Kitchen, that ask for little and accomplish so much” says Mike Snyder.

The annual fundraising push for the Holiday Meal began when Mike and Rich met through Leadership Columbus, a year long community program designed to provide education and training for emerging and existing leaders in the Columbus area. Through other Leadership Columbus Alumni, friends and business associates their efforts have donated between $1,200 and $2,500 for the Holiday Meal every year since 2006.

“Many organizations and individuals are scaling back their charitable giving and the downturn in the economy is creating a greater need than ever before” stated Richard Kruse. “This year we are working to fund the entire Meal at a price tag close to $5,000 and hope to also put additional donations into the Soup Kitchen coffers for daily operations.”

Donations to the Soup Kitchen Holiday Meal are being accepted in the form of checks, gift cards to grocery stores or direct donations of food product. Checks payable to Holy Family Soup Kitchen may be sent to Mike Snyder, c/o Shumaker Loop & Kendrick, 41 S. High St., Columbus, OH 43215.
