New Jersey personal injury lawyers Console & Hollawell recently released an infographic—a visual representation of information—that shows how safe Southern New Jersey roads are for pedestrians.

Founder and Managing Partner, Richard P. Console, said, "We noticed a significant number of pedestrian injuries and fatalities in the area. We thought it would be important to research how safe the roads are in Southern New Jersey for pedestrians.”

Using sources such as the Tri-State Transportation Campaign, Traffic Safety Coalition, New Jersey State Police, and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, they team at Console & Hollawell began to gather statistics.

Research showed that in 2009, there were 157 pedestrian deaths in Southern New Jersey, 112 of whom were male, and 45 of whom were female. In addition to this statistic, the infographic also shows how often alcohol played a part in pedestrian fatalities, how many fatalities occurred in unmarked crosswalks or in areas where it was prohibited to cross, and the age of pedestrians who were fatally injured. The infographic also identifies five roads in Southern New Jersey that are most dangerous for pedestrians.

Console & Hollawell created this colorful infographic as a public service to promote pedestrian safety and to expose the most dangerous roads in Southern New Jersey. They hope that by bringing this issue to light, state organizations such as the New Jersey Department of Transportation will take notice of the shocking statistics and investigate ways to increase safety, so injuries can be reduced and lives saved.

As personal injury attorneys, Console & Hollawell view it as their obligation not only to seek compensation for those injured, but also to educate and arm people with the necessary information to avoid getting injured in the first place.
