Toolbox have had record levels of orders in many areas on its e-commerce website over the cold snap, most noticeably and probably expected in the shovels category as well as a complete sell out in the majority of its space heater ranges.
With much of the UK remaining in the grip of freezing conditions as snow and ice continue to severely hamper the country and travel. Forecasters have predicted more snow over the coming week and no respite with the deep freeze set to continue. Parts of Scotland have dropped to below -20C, similar temperatures to the North Pole.
It’s no wonder that Toolbox has seen an increase in sales, as customers make a dash for shovels to clear driveways, paths, school yards and business premises.
Anthony Langston, Web Admin of Toolbox said:
“The website hits have gone through the roof over the last week with huge amounts of traffic hitting the hand tools and heating sections. We have had to monitor the Cost Per Click campaigns we have running to make sure we are not overspending due to the massive increase in clicks via Google. The website has also been monitored to ensure it continues to work as fast as it should, even with the increased load because of the rising number of customers.”
Lee Taylor, General Manager of Toolbox added:
“We expected shovels and space heaters to sell well around this time of year, they always do! What we did not predict, and never can, is the weather, which usually determines just how popular heating and clearing products are. A lot of other online tool retailers have upped prices of heaters and shovels etc. in an attempt to capitalise on the weather conditions, we however have held our prices, offering customers the chance to buy the products they need at extremely competitive un-inflated prices – hopefully proving to our customers they are the most important thing to us.”
With the cold weather and snow set to continue for at least another 7 days, Toolbox have stocked up on shovels and space heaters where possible and drafted in extra supplies from the manufacturers such as Draper and Silverline who have done their best to satisfy the high demand.
Toolbox sell a whole host of power tool and hand tool products, and also have a gift ideas section on the home page which gives customers excellent ideas and price points when it comes to buying birthday presents for loved ones.
Toolbox is based in Evesham, Worcestershire and now employs 50 staff within their 2,000 sqm, purpose built warehouse and offices. The sister company Plumbworld had a turnover in 2008 in excess of £18 Million. Plumbworld was established in 1999 and was sold to The Grafton Group Plc in December 2006.
