Garland Raises More Than $32,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® During Week of Fundraising

Cleveland-based The Garland Company, Inc. raised more than $32,000 to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital during its third annual Spirit Week. The entire office engaged in a variety of creative fund-raising activities with all proceeds benefiting St. Jude and its mission of treating children fighting cancer and other deadly diseases with pioneering research and exceptional care.

Through Spirit Week, the Garland Company employees demonstrated their amazing commitment to helping kids battling cancer and other deadly diseases at St. Jude.

The Garland Company, Inc., a local employee-owned manufacturer of high-performance solutions for the commercial building envelope, raised more than $32,000 to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® in its mission of finding a cure for childhood cancers and other deadly diseases.

The approximately 80 employees at Garland’s corporate headquarters on East 91st Street in Cleveland, Ohio, dedicated the week of June 4-8 to raising money in support of St. Jude through various fund-raising activities, including donating to dress casual, a wing eating contest, Minute-To-Win-It games, garbage can races, a Chinese auction, and a silent auction, among other activities.

At the end of the week, monies raised during Spirit Week totaled just over $16,000. Touched by the incredible generosity of its employees, Garland’s Board of Directors announced that the company would match the amount raised, bringing the total to $32,776.

“Through Spirit Week, the Garland Company employees demonstrated their amazing commitment to helping kids battling cancer and other deadly diseases at St. Jude,” said Karen White, senior vice president of corporate alliances at ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “At St. Jude we’re dealing with some very serious issues, but it’s also a wonderful place full of hope and renewed spirit, which Garland embodies through this campaign.”

St. Jude treats children fighting cancer and other deadly diseases with pioneering research and exceptional care and no family every pays St. Jude for anything. St. Jude covers the cost of treatment, travel, lodging and food for each patient and a family member. Since opening its doors 50 years ago, St. Jude has developed protocols that have helped push overall survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20 percent in 1962 to 80 percent today.
