Napa Valley product innovation firm, Spit Bucket, Inc. introduces its first line of original wine accessories, barware and home décor products.
Spit Bucket, Inc., a Napa Valley product innovation firm, was born from the idea that wine should be fun and approachable. Imagine Dionysus and his cult of maenads, well maybe lose the maenads, but imagine a time when wine wasn’t so pretentious and people drank wine because they enjoyed drinking it among friends, and possibly on the bocce court after a long day at the office (or the coliseum).
In 2009, Spit Bucket founders, Jennifer Amis (CEO) and Michael Roché (Creative Director), brought together like-minded, forward-thinking and entrepreneurial wine professionals to create a “Drink Tank,” which encouraged these professionals to “think and drink.” Building on this idea that wine should be approachable, unconventional, fun, and not too serious, Jen and Michael explored the world of wine further with the idea to create a line of original, contemporary wine accessories that complement how we live today, as young, hip, knowledgeable (or not!) wine drinkers.
With the combination of Jen’s entrepreneurial spirit and Michael’s design expertise, Spit Bucket successfully launched its first line of original wine accessories, barware and home décor products earlier this year. This line of Spit Bucket products includes Vinocoast coasters, a modern take on the 5-S’s of wine tasting (see, swirl, sniff, sip, savor, smile); Vinodote, a mad-libs-esque wine tasting game; Vinostop, the first in a series of reusable wine stoppers and Cocktailcoast coasters, for our friends who prefer something a bit harder (rocks, dirty, twist, salt, dry, neat).
All designs are original and conceptualized in-house. In addition to the accessories line, Spit Bucket also offers private label and custom design services to the wine industry and beyond. We are excited to announce that we have several products in development, including wine racks, ice buckets, additional stoppers, and, of course, spit buckets.
After fifteen years in venture capital and tech start-ups, Jen moved to Napa to follow her passion for the earthly delights – wine and food. She began her Napa-based career by consulting for local start-ups in providing business planning, marketing and financial expertise. Her prior entrepreneurial experience with major firms in New York City and Washington, DC was pivotal to her new career path.
Jen continues to expand her wine knowledge with the arduous task of frequent tastings, dinner parties and wine-focused travel. She holds a BA from Georgetown University and the Certified Wine Professional credential through the Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena, where she was recently profiled with a “Wine Immersion Success Story.”
Michael has been using his vision and passion for creative problem solving to generate image and revenue for an impressive roster of clients over the last 20 years including Gap, Smith & Hawken, Thomas Keller Restaurant Group and Coppola Companies. In addition, Michael owns Parasol Brand Architecture, an identity and design firm specializing in the wine industry. Clients include Joel Gott Wines, C. Beck, Whitehall Lane Winery and Lail Family Vineyard, with recent clients, Upstart Crow and GoVino selected for the SFMOMA exhibit, How Wine Became Modern Design + Wine 1976 to Now
He holds a BA in Environmental Design from UC Davis, a MA in Architecture from UC Berkeley and is the captain of his bocce team.
