San Jose, CA (PRWEB) September 08, 2011
Splashtop Inc., the worldwide leader in cross-device computing, today announced the release of Engine Connect, an app designed for broadcasters to control Vizrt content from an iPad using multi-touch capabilities. Engine Connect will debut at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC), the leading global tradeshow for professionals engaged in the creation, management and delivery of broadcasting media and entertainment, at the Amsterdam RAI on September 9-13. Vizrt products are used by the world’s leading broadcasters and publishing houses including CNN, CBS, Fox, the BBC, CCTV, NHK, and Welt Online.
Targeted for news, weather, and sports broadcasts in the studio, Engine Connect enables presenters to connect to and control interactive real-time animations and graphics on Viz Engine, a state-of-the-art real-time renderer for broadcasting. It complements Viz Engine by offering features to presenters such as multi-touch, scene selection, full control of in-scene animation and live-streamed video updates to the iPad.
“As the use of presenter-controlled graphics for TV is rapidly increasing, we wanted to bring all the rendering power of our Viz Engine to the iPad without sacrificing the quality of the rich media. Interactivity for news, sports and weather will reach a new level of excellence with Engine Connect,” said Gerhard Lang, chief engineering officer at Vizrt. “The low latency between the creation of a frame on Viz Engine and its display on the iPad coupled with a frame rate of up to 30 fps defines Splashtop as the only solution for interactive Viz scenes on the iPad. With its multi-touch capabilities, Engine Connect enables the display of all scenes created with Vizrt’s own or Moldens multi-touch plugins for the iPad.”
Engine Connect’s key advantages include:
- Live, high-definition streaming of Viz Engine at up to 30 fps to a full screen on the iPad
- Freedom for presenters to face the camera without turning to touch a display
- Ability for anchors to use graphics they select from anywhere in the studio without going through the control room
- Useful telestration tool for virtual overlays and highlighting during sports analysis
- Easy setup and minimal implementation costs
"For the sequel to Minority Report, we fully expect to get a call from the movie’s director. With Engine Connect and an iPad at his fingertips, Tom Cruise's role as investigator will be simple, smooth and fast. No more jumping around and waving his hands. No mission will seem impossible," said Mark Lee, CEO and co-founder of Splashtop. “Tom Cruise aside, we are excited to be chosen by Vizrt as the partner to extend Viz Engine to iPad. Our partnership reaffirms Splashtop’s ability to deliver the best-in-class video and audio performance.”
Engine Connect will be available from the iTunes App Store shortly after IBC at: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/engine-connect/id460211326?ls=1&mt=8
Check out a live demo of Engine Connect at Vizrt’s Stand #A31, Hall 2, September 9 – 13 at the IBC tradeshow, Amsterdam RAI, Holland.
