According to a report by Khou.com, the organizing committee for the NCAA Basketball Final Four Tournament made an announcement on Tuesday that elaborated on their plans for the week the event is to take place in. The event kicks off on Monday, March 31 and goes on non-stop till the next Monday, April 4, starting before the actual tournament and ending a day after the final.
The festival will be taking place around Reliant Stadium and will include everything from musical performances to family events. According to the Public Schedule of Events published on the NCAA website and issued by the officials, the festival will feature a Bracket Town that will be a place where fans can go and partake in one of the many NCAA sporting events through competitions. Fans will also get a chance to meet their favorite players and coaches in addition to attending autograph signing sessions and photo ops with them.
Bracket Town is scheduled to run throughout the week while the 3 day music festival called ‘The Big Dance’ will run from April 1 – 3. The musical event is a free concert for music fans and will feature local artists as well as nationally acclaimed musicians; names are yet to be announced. Attendees will also be given the chance to enjoy food and other activities.
The Friday before the big matches is to be called the Final Four Friday and will give fans the chance to attend open training sessions with their favorite teams while all the 4 team’s coaches will also speak to the fans after the training sessions.
The organizers have made sure that the event becomes a major attraction and the maximum amount of people turn up for the Final Four in Houston. To this end, four of the city’s restaurants have been assigned to each team as their fan headquarters and the city is expecting a revenue influx of $50 million according to Khou.com.
As this NCAA Reliant Stadium event becomes more popular, the ticket market is witnessing a change in trends. Anastasia Lyman from secondary ticket retailer TicketLuck.com spoke on how they noticed this trend. “The NCAA Championship tickets don’t usually start selling till closer to the event date but this year, all the added attractions seem to have created a rush for tickets,” said Lyman. “Tickets are selling for way more than we expected, we have tickets listed that go over the $5,000 mark and people have been ordering tickets ever since the announcement about the festival was made,” she added.
While the announcement concerning the entertainment has had an impact on the market, brokers expect a bigger surge once the teams are announced for the Final Four at Reliant Stadium.
