Garrett Madison Interviewed on Sportsideo Direct from Mt. Everest

We had to put in a new route up to Camp III…climbing up the icy slopes of the Lhotse Face. We got it put in [the new route], everybody got up there, did well.

Sportsideo announced today that it released its third interview with Garrett Madison from Alpine Ascents International’s Mt. Everest Expedition. In the interview, Garrett Madison, one of the world’s top climbers, tells Sportsideo’s Keith Irizarry that ice conditions and rock fall hazards on Mt. Everest required his team to establish a new route to Camp III. Sportsideo’s interview with Madison as well other interviews and video coverage direct from Mt. Everest can be seen on Sportsideo.

Madison reports that due to the icy conditions on Mt. Everest and several climbers being injured by rock fall hazards, his team and another team took the initiative to establish a new route to Camp III. “The mountain’s been very icy,” said Madison during his interview. “[It’s] very cold and dry this year. Many teams have not been able to get up to Camp III to establish a route. We had to put in a new route up to Camp III…climbing up the icy slopes of the Lhotse Face. We got it put in [the new route], everybody got up there, did well.”

During the interview, Madison said his team “is doing pretty well. We’re back at Base Camp, resting, and getting ready to pull the trigger on our summit rotation once the weather is looking good…. In the next week or so we are looking to establish our route to the summit.”
