The owner of Makeup By Merry (MakeupByMerry.com), a Toronto-based makeup artist and hair stylist with over 15 years of international experience, is pleased to announce her top tips for helping soon-to-be brides find the perfect makeup artist and hair stylist.

“Weddings can be both exciting and stressful; getting ready for the big day, knowing that friends and family will be there to support you along with numerous camera lenses focused in your direction. The added pressure to look your best on your wedding day is immense,” says Merry Baguio, owner of Makeup By Merry. “To make your wedding as pleasurable and stress-free as possible, leave your hair and makeup to a professional stylist.”

What tips should brides consider when looking for a makeup artist and stylist for their wedding day? According to Makeup By Merry’s top tips, when talking to a professional makeup artist, ask to see pictures of actual brides in their portfolio. Professional stylists should have a long list of satisfied clients with great testimonials. A failure to provide references should be a red flag.

Ask the bridal makeup artist what kind of products they use. Does it work well and complement the bride’s skin type? And most importantly, will it photograph well? Some makeup looks great in person, but doesn’t translate well to print. While wedding pictures can be modified, not everything can be retouched. At the same time, find what kind of understanding the stylist has about photography. How will the bride’s makeup and hair style look under different lighting conditions?

Some weddings take place early in the morning or late in the evening. Can the stylist accommodate the wedding schedule? And is the stylist able to apply the makeup and style the bride and wedding party’s hair on location? At the trial session, ensure that the stylist does a full makeup application and hair styling. The last thing a bride wants on her wedding day is uncertainty.

There are a lot of factors to consider when looking for a professional makeup artist and stylist. To get the most out of her wedding day makeup and hair, the bride should make sure she finds a professional makeup artist and stylist who understands her and her concerns. Because looking good has a lot to do with feeling good. And if the bride looks good, she’ll feel great, too!

“Finally, it’s important to select a stylist that has a lot of energy and enthusiasm, and is easy to communicate with,” adds Baguio. “I love being involved in helping brides look their best on their wedding day. It is a privilege to help women feel beautiful and confident. My work is so much fun, but more than that, it’s extremely rewarding.”
