Going to that doctor saved her life. I want this to be a testimony to someone else that it’s so important to get your eyes checked out.

Clarkson Eyecare is proud to share a story of good medicine and hope. Dr. Aaron Brewer, of the Florissant-Dunn Road location, saw Mrs. Charlean Clemons on March 3, 2011, and made a diagnosis that saved her life.

“Through routine examination, I learned that Mrs. Clemons had recently experienced some vision loss,” says Dr. Brewer. “Loss of peripheral vision in both eyes is information that can be consistent with a brain tumor. I immediately ordered a Visual Field test.” Upon examining her results, Dr. Brewer recommended she make an appointment as soon as possible with a specialist. Mrs. Clemons scheduled an appointment at Barnes Jewish Hospital. At this exam it was discovered that she had a small pituitary tumor developing between both optic nerves.

Gary Clemons, Charlean’s husband, is especially grateful to Dr. Brewer and the Florissant staff. “They gave us a list of people who would take us, because we don’t have insurance,” Gary says. “Going to that doctor saved her life. I want this to be a testimony to someone else that it’s so important to get your eyes checked out.”

Charlean had surgery on March 11, 2011 to remove the tumor from her brain. She is in the initial stages of recuperation, and her doctors expect her to fully recover.
