Industry’s first press system for Schedule 10S stainless steel pipe receives honors in compressed air category

“We’re thrilled that Vic-Press has been recognized with such a well-known award in this industry,” said Susan Schierwagen, director of couplings and suppression systems with Victaulic.

The Victaulic Vic-Press system, a flame-free press system that joins stainless steel pipe in a matter of seconds, was selected as a bronze award recipient in the Plant Engineering 2011 Product of the Year Awards. Vic-Press was honored in the compressed air category at the awards dinner, held last week in Chicago.

Vic-Press is the industry’s first press-to-connect pipe-joining system for off-the-shelf Schedule 10S stainless steel pipe. The system offers increased strength and durability and improved flow characteristics compared to light-wall tube systems; safer, more efficient pipe assembly than welding, threading and flanging; and meets or exceeds industry standards.

With pressure tolerances of up to 500 psi, Vic-Press offers the highest pressure rating of any stainless steel press system currently on the market. Vic-Press is ideal for a number of wet and dry industrial and commercial applications, including potable water, oil, compressed air, lubricated air, gases and general chemical services.

“We’re thrilled that Vic-Press has been recognized with such a well-known award in this industry,” said Susan Schierwagen, director of couplings and suppression systems with Victaulic. “It’s a great system for plants looking to quickly and reliably join small-diameter stainless steel. For compressed air systems, early applications show that it significantly reduces the possibility of leaks, greatly reducing costs and maintenance requirements.”

The annual Product of the Year recognition, now in its 24th year, is billed as the manufacturing and engineering industry standard for new product achievement.

“Winners are selected by a vote of qualified Plant Engineering subscribers – the engineers who buy, specify and use these products on a daily basis. They are the most qualified people you can find to understand how new products reduce energy costs, ensure safety and improve productivity on the manufacturing plant floor. That’s why the Plant Engineering Product of the Year award is so highly regarded in our industry,” said Bob Vavra, editor of Plant Engineering magazine.

Vic-Press joins a number of other Victaulic products that have been honored in past Product of the Year Awards programs. The Style 177 QuickVic flexible coupling was named a bronze award recipient in the 2009 awards, and the Victaulic Vortex fire suppression system was awarded silver in the 2008 competition.
