David’s Soundview Catering won First County Bank’s third annual Chefs Challenge at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center’s Maple Sugar Festival Weekend on Saturday, March 3. The challenge tasked four local chefs to design Maple syrup inspired recipes for all festival guests to sample and Vote for their favorite.

Chef Erik Anderson won the public vote with his grilled Panini, featuring maple & black Pepper glazed bacon, layered with roasted pulled chicken and melted smoked artisan cheddar cheese from Vermont. He followed with sweet red velvet whoopie pies with maple cream cheese filling.
“Of course it’s an honor and a thrill to win. It’s even more satisfying to be out in the community sharing our love of food with fellow foodies,” said Erik Anderson of David’s Soundview Catering.

The Chef’s Challenge is the centerpiece of the weekend, surrounded by maple sugar & tree tapping demos, crafts, pancake brunch & a scavenger hunt. “We have long-standing relationships with the Stamford Museum & Nature Center and First County Bank, and we love what they do for the community,” said Melissa DeSousa, Director of Sales & Operations for David’s Soundview Catering.

This year marks the 12th anniversary First County Bank has sponsored this family festival highlighting the New England tradition of maple sugaring. “It was a terrific event for all,” said Rey Giallongo, chairman and CEO of First County Bank, after announcing the winner in the Bendel Mansion on the museum’s property. “More than 200 voted for their favorite recipe and I was one of them. All the chefs and their helpers deserve a heart-felt thank you for participating in this year’s contest. We look forward to hosting this event again next year and sponsoring the Maple Sugar Festival Weekend.”
