Orange County, CA (Vocus) November 3, 2010
STANDUP FOR KIDS, a nonprofit organization that helps homeless teenagers and young adults get off the street, will hold the STANDUP On The Vine wine tasting fundraiser on Sunday, November 14 at Bacchus’ Secret Cellar in Irvine, from 5 to 8 p.m. All proceeds raised that evening will go toward the building of a STANDUP FOR KIDS drop-in center and transitional housing. This center will serve the 26,000 homeless youth currently living in Orange County.
Founded in 1990, STANDUP FOR KIDS provides homeless youth with access to health services, life skills training and basic necessities such as food, clothing and shelter. The Orange County chapter of SUFK is made up entirely of volunteer and runs purely on donations and grants. Bacchus’ Secret Cellar owners, Jeff and Valerie Roos have generously offered to match 50 percent of proceeds made that evening.
SUFK combs the streets of Orange County, searching and reaching out to homeless teens. There are many reasons why youth are homeless. For some, living on the streets is the better alternative to living at home. Statistics show that either the vast majority of these youth have been ejected from their homes, left with their parents' or guardians' full knowledge, or are running from horrifying situations such as sexual and physical abuse. Many homeless youth have aged out of the foster care system and have nowhere else to turn.
Bacchus’ Secret Cellar is located at 6735 Quail Hill Parkway in Irvine. Anyone 21 and older is invited to attend this public event. Tickets include four tastings of white and red wine, appetizers, desserts, and entertainment and will be sold for $35 each and are available online at http://www.TicketLeap.net, search term StandUp On The Vine. Non-alcoholic beverages will be available.
