Hoping to show young women a model of a strong and successful woman who uses her skills in the service of others, B. C. Mercer wrote “Star of Aquilinia: A Parable for Earth,” (published by Balboa Press AU), a science fiction novel about a woman born with a great healing gift who works to save her planet from environmental damage caused by reckless scientists.

Thousands of years ago, during the civilization of Atlantis on Earth, Remarla is born to an aristocratic family. She represents the fulfillment of a prophecy – she is to be the one who will guide the planet of Aquilinia through its darkest days. With her great healing gifts and ability to teach others, only she will be able to reverse the damage caused by those of the New Science Society, who seek energy sources that are harmful to the planet. Remarla must ensure that Aquilinia remains safe in the face of disaster.

“This book shows the value of learning to use all of your abilities, not only for your own advancement, but also for the benefit of others. It also shows how to value the environment and your people and culture,” Mercer says.

The story of “Star of Aquilinia” is intended to heighten readers’ awareness of the environment where they live. It reflects the value of enduring friendships as it provides a cautionary tale about the dangers of irresponsible use of technology.
