Minitab Inc., the leading provider of software for quality improvement and statistics education, will commemorate the 40th anniversary of Minitab Statistical Software at the 2012 Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM) in San Diego, Calif.
The first version of Minitab software debuted at the 1972 American Statistical Association Meeting, and this year’s gathering marks 40 years since the software was first distributed and introduced to the academic market.
To thank customers, Minitab is celebrating the anniversary online and at its JSM expo booth (#312), July 29 – August 1 at the San Diego Convention Center. Attendees are invited to visit the Minitab booth to learn more about the company’s products and services, which also include training, statistical mentoring and free technical support.
Visitors to Minitab.com can participate in the celebration online via a thank-you video from Minitab employees and partners, a personal message from Minitab’s President and CEO, Barbara Ryan, and an interactive timeline of product events and milestones. They can also share stories about their experiences with Minitab Statistical Software on Minitab’s Blog.
Minitab Statistical Software was developed in 1972 by Ryan and two other Penn State statistics instructors who wanted to incorporate computers into the teaching of college statistics courses. At the time, students used desk calculators to perform tedious statistical calculations.
“Using Minitab to perform the calculations freed students to concentrate on learning what really mattered—the statistical concepts,” says Ryan. “From the start, our goal has been to make data analysis easier.”
Minitab is a gold sponsor of this year’s JSM conference, which is the largest gathering of statisticians in North America.
“The annual Joint Statistical Meetings provides the unique opportunity to see how the field of statistics is advancing across academia and industry,” says Christine Bayly, Minitab academic sales manager. “At Minitab, we are dedicated to making statistics easy to teach and to learn, and we’re very proud to sponsor the event where our software was first introduced.”
JSM participants can connect with Minitab during the event and keep-up-to-date with Minitab happenings on Twitter by tagging conference tweets with #minitab40.
