Liberty Learning Foundation’s “Next Great Americans Tour” is making stops at elementary schools across the country to kick off the Lady Liberty-inspired "Super Citizen" school program that’s “helping students discover and define their role in America’s future.”
“The tour performances get students excited about their America and help us raise awareness and funding to place Super Citizen kits in every school in America,” says Liberty Learning founder Patti Yancey.
“We’re being flooded with emotional pleas from thousands of teachers who are adamant that their students learn these lessons despite budget cuts. And with the help of passionate businesses and individuals, we’re going to make sure they get the tools they need.”
While the program has a foundation in the soul-stirring ideals that the Statue of Liberty symbolizes, it also makes it easy for educators to teach traditionally underfunded character-building, financial literacy and career development components that Yancey says are “fundamental to the development of our Next Great Americans.”
In the tour’s 30-minute theatrical performances, Rachel Rainwater (the costumed “Lady Liberty Live”) brings the Statue of Liberty to life and leads students on a high-energy journey that includes rousing original music and video.
Rainwater says, “It’s incredible to see the students’ faces as they start understanding how exciting and empowering learning can be. We’re proud to promote the program as it includes the kind of hands-on and multimedia tools that really speak to the ‘digital’ generation of 'Super Citizens'."
“In a time of political division,” Yancey says, “the "Super Citizen Program" (and the Next Great Americans Tour that’s supporting it) is a moving, non-partisan, starting point for teachers who want to encourage students to engage in their country and appreciate the freedoms we often take for granted.”
