Stauber Drilling Inc. purchased a custom built sonic drill from a Canadian manufacturer. The drill uses high frequency resonant vibrations that are sent down the drilling string to the drill bit. Sonic drilling is faster than traditional rotary or auger drilling and performs extremely well in difficult soil conditions. Features such as a tilting drill head and hydraulic break-out wrenches reduce manual labour and increase safety.
There are many advantages to the sonic drill in addition to the speed and safety features. The drill can quickly produce accurate and almost totally undisturbed core samples. It generates considerably less waste than other drilling methods as water disposal and clean up costs can be greatly reduced. In many instances, holes can be drilled without the use of drilling mud.
With its state of the art rod handling system, which is completely hands free, enables pipe to be added and removed without physical interaction or contact. The rig allows workers to complete projects quickly and safely. Rods are held in the rotary storage magazine as well as holding a rod in its arm. It is also capable of reaching backwards to pick up and load large diameter casings off of a truck or pipe rack. The rig is on tracks and can easily gain access to remote areas.
The sonic drill is ideal for many applications. Stauber Drilling Inc. will be using it for coring, geotechnical, environmental investigation and water wells.
“The advanced technology and capabilities available through the use of our sonic rig are generating incredible interest from our expanding customer base. Safety, speed and environmental impact are important to our customers, and the advanced solutions available through the use of the sonic rig are allowing us to exceed their expectations” says President and CEO Fred Glass.
Stauber Drilling Inc. is a Saskatchewan based drilling contractor providing safe, reliable service throughout Saskatchewan and neighbouring provinces since 2002. In addition to the sonic rig, the company has mud rotary rigs and a full fleet of support equipment. For further information, please visit their website at http://www.stauberdrilling.com.
