The St Jude Retreat's New Family Program Launches This Fall

The Family Program will introduce a common sense approach and real life solutions the families can implement immediately to improve their own lives and ultimately make a positive impact on the substance user.

The Saint Jude Program is proud to announce the development of a new Family Program to the growing list of products they offer. This program is scheduled to be available in early fall 2012. The highly anticipated Family Program will be offered as a home study program as well as a two-day workshop. The primary purpose of the program is to educate families on how they can best help their loved one and and how to deal with the challenges that come with newfound sobriety and/or moderated use after their loved one completes the St. Jude Program.

The program focuses on building and maintaining healthy, positive relationships as well as educating the family on what addiction is and is not. Unlike family programs offered in addiction treatment centers, the Saint Jude Family Program puts an emphasis on family members by showing them how they can build successful, happy, lives separate from their loved one's choices regarding drug and/or alcohol use.

Executive Director and Family Program Developer Michelle Dunbar states, “Saint Jude’s has always offered education and support for family members on a very personal level. This Family Program has been built based on more than 20 years of research and providing this personalized service to thousands of families. We are so excited to be able to offer this additional service to our guests and their families.”

The most important point that the Family Program will address is the fact that no one can control the thoughts and behaviors of another person. Years of trying to change a substance user’s behaviors often take their toll on families and friends, leaving them feeling hopeless, anxious, depressed and sometimes physically ill. It is important for families to learn the facts about addiction, which contradict so much of what they have learned from previous treatment programs, therapists and society as a whole.

The Family Program will dispel the many harmful myths surrounding drug and alcohol use problems and introduce a common sense approach and real life solutions the families can implement immediately to improve their own lives and ultimately make a positive impact on the substance user. The program will help families to build healthier relationships which require open lines of communication, mutual respect and trust.

Families and friends of substance users are labeled and often seen to be a primary component or cause for their loved one’s problems by well-meaning, yet misguided addiction professionals. The Saint Jude Family Program will smash that harmful rhetoric and misinformation, and help the family to build the life they truly want for themselves, free from labels, fears and guilt. Families deserve to be happy, enjoy the fruits of their labors and move on with their lives.

Saint Jude Retreats® is a non-diseased based drug and alcohol program implementing proprietary methodology called Cognitive Behavioral EducationSM(CBE). The program is the only effective alternative to alcohol rehab and drug treatment centers in the United States. The program is endorsed by internationally acclaimed professionals and addiction research authors such as Prof. Emeritus David Hanson, PhD; Prof. David Rudy, PhD; Dr. Joy Browne and the late Joseph Vacca, PhD, among others.
