San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) August 10, 2009
The Lodi Motorcycle Club is proud to announce the return of the Stockton Mile at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds in Stockton, California after a 31 year hiatus. Notably, this race is the only mile dirt track race west of the Mississippi in 2009.
High profile professional Grand National Championship riders from across the country have entered the event. These names include the present GNC points leader Jared Mees, Slammin' Sammy Halbert presently third place in national standings and 2000 Grand National Champion Joe Kopp. Professional riders based out of California will be well represented by Zanotti Racing's Jethro Halbert, Chad Cose, veteran Rick "The Hock" Hocking and many, many more.
"The 2009 Mitchell Motorcycle Group Stockton Mile is shaping up to be a very special race. It's been six years since a mile race was held west of the Mississippi River and 31 years since the last Stockton Mile. Rider and spectator interest has been immense - the riders all want the thrill of tossing their bike into the turns at 120 MPH and the spectators want to see the oldest form of motorcycle racing brought back to California for a weekend of sliding, banging and long, lurid rooster tails" said Al Webber, race chairman of the event.
Saturday will be the big day for the professional classes with the Expert 450s, Expert Singles and Expert Unlimited classes running for over $17,000 in purse money, plus the Open Vintage featuring the fastest bikes from the past. Sunday will be dedicated to amateur racing, highlighted by the Vintage Singles and 3 historic brakeless classes. Riders from as far away as Florida are signed up to attend
this unique event.
The 2009 Stockton Mile experience includes a free display of rare classic racing motorcycles including such notable bikes as Terry Poovey's Honda RS750, the "Thing" and a 1920 Harley Davidson board tracker.
Sponsors for the event include A&A Racing, Motion Pro, STKN-Moto, Stockton Chapter Harley Owner's Group, Digger Helm Racing, Rod Lake Racing, MotoMarin, Dudley Perkins Harley Davidson, The Radio Guys and 180 Energy.
Details regarding tickets, overnight camping, location and rider signup can be found at the event's website, http://www.stocktonmile.com. Box seats are limited and demand has been brisk so orders need to be placed early.
