Richmond-based retina specialist and elected president of the Central Virginia Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Dr. J. Stewart O’Keefe treats patients in Northern Virginia at the Retina Institute of Virginia’s Fredericksburg location. Each year, Dr. O’Keefe performs over 500 surgeries in the Central Virginia area, specializing in retinal detachments, macular surgery and retinal vascular diseases, retinopathy of prematurity, ocular tumors and diabetic retinopathy. Dr. O'Keefe is fellowship trained in Vitreoretinal Surgery and Diseases, is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, an active member of the Virginia Society of Ophthalmology and an active healthcare provider through Access Now and Crossover Ministry, in addition to serving as the president of the Central Virginia JDRF. Dr. O’Keefe will serve his Northern Virginia patients at the RIV Fredericksburg location off of Jefferson Davis Highway.

In addition to his work with Retina Institute of Virginia and Stony Point Surgery Center, Dr. O’Keefe works in all but one neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in both Richmond and Fredericksburg to conduct screenings for retinopathy of prematurity, an abnormal blood vessel development in premature babies. Dr. O’Keefe also treats adults and children for a variety of eye ailments and injuries, such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and retinal detachment; infections of the eye; and macular holes and puckers.
