Head Designer Alicia Estrada gets inspiration for vintage dresses from Golden Age of Mexican Cinema

I loved the bombshell dresses that enhance the Latina curves, while still remaining very classy and alluring

The Fall 2012 collection of original vintage cocktail dresses from Stop Staring clothing will be presented at The Vibiana in Los Angeles on Monday, March 12th 2012.

Alicia Estrada, the head designer and founder of Stop Staring was born and raised in Los Angeles and grew up in a large Mexican American family. Estrada’s retro clothing collection is influenced by her upbringing, Mexican heritage and keen sense for form fitting, classic, feminine styles.

Estrada’s Fall collection is inspired by the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema, known in Spanish as the "Epoca de Oro.” During the 1940s and 1950s, Mexican film makers created black and white films starring some of the most beautiful starlets on film such as Dolores del Rio, Maria Felix, Marga Lopez, and Lupe Velez.

"My fall collection is inspired by the glamor and beauty of the dresses worn by these Mexican Starlets while on and off screen,” Estrada said. “I loved the bombshell dresses that enhance the Latina curves, while still remaining very classy and alluring.”

The Stop Staring philosophy is to flatter a woman’s figure and cater to a women’s independent spirit with timeless and classic styles. In her Fall collection, Estrada incorporates window pane plaid in shades of blues, greys and black and uses two-tone blocking while maintaining the the sexy form fitting styles that Stop Staring is known for.

Inspiration for the models hair and makeup comes from Dolores del Rio, who was a famous Mexican actress and star of Hollywood films during the Golden Age of Hollywood. Dolores del Rio is known for her billowing curls, center part, and flawless pinup makeup.

"Dolores del Rio was one of my favorite actresses, she had impeccable taste in fashion, and was thought to be one of the most beautiful actresses of her era,” Estrada said.

Estrada’s love for all things vintage continues to play a key role in her design process. She continually incorporates the details of yesteryear into her retro-contemporary dresses and separates.
