Author Jay Stoyan’s newest book, Flanagan’s: Life Inside an Irish Street Gang brings the best of spine-tingling real-life experiences into the realm of fiction and non-stop excitement. With his expert knowledge of gang life and personal experience in the trenches, he spins and weaves his tale expertly---from start to finish. It won’t be put down. No threats needed.

Developed from his screenplay Tale to Tell and published by Rain Publishing, Jay spins his story…with a touch of reality, to protect the guilty…to the public that will grow to love the story—and the man that tells it. In his book, real life crosses reality and into fantasy—but only barely.

As Jay describes it, “I write from the experiences I’ve had in my life…with a lot of passion. I’m driven and I have a personal motto: Be nice to me and I’ll be nicer to you; be rude to me and look out.”

Jay Stoyan’s true, non-fiction Irish Catholic upbringing—driven by a straight-laced hard-working father and a devout Catholic mother--gave way even before his fourteenth birthday to delinquency, then to gang membership and street action in Boston. On the mean streets of Boston, loyalty meant everything. To be a good friend was to be a real man.

Growing up, the streets in Dorchester Heights, MA, just weren’t big enough; Frankie and the boys had to carve out a niche in another area. Downtown Boston beckoned, and Jay answered the call. Living life in the gang gave Jay the opportunity to perfect his study of martial arts while running a downtown Irish pub. He gained the reputation for “just getting things done.”

In exploring his options for writing, Jay elected to share his story with Rain Publishing founder Tilly Rivers and President Dave Paterson. It was a perfect match—for all parties involved. Rain Publishing, based in Burlington, Ontario, builds books and dreams—one author at a time.

“We’re thrilled to have Jay join our growing and expanding group of world-class authors,” said Dave Paterson, President of Rain Publishing. “His grasp of this genre is honed by his real-life, real-world experience. Fiction fed by reality always makes a great read. Jay’s outdone himself with this work.”

Upcoming press coverage of the book—and Jay-- includes interviews, book signings, “Off the Record” with Michael Landsberg on TSN, July 31, and an upcoming Press reception at The Devil’s Harp in Mississauga on September 9.
