...while Chris Strand was with Strand Brothers the company became the leading contractor for air conditioning replacement in existing homes with over 20% market share.

Long-time Austin area heating and air conditioning contractor, Chris Strand, recently acquired Stan’s Heating & Air Conditioning, an Austin company formerly owned by Stan Johnson, and founded by Stan Johnson’s father in 1954.
Chris Strand founded Strand Brothers Heating & Air Conditioning in 1978, and later sold the business to Service Experts.
“I sold Strand Brothers and completed my obligation to the new owner at the end of 2010,” Strand said. “But Austin is growing, and I believe there’s a need for a locally-owned heating and air conditioning company with expertise in energy conservation. So my family and I, along with a few key people who formerly worked at Strand Brothers/Service Experts decided to get back in business at Stan’s.”
According to an Austin Energy report, while Chris Strand was with Strand Brothers the company became the leading contractor for air conditioning replacement in existing homes with over 20% market share.
In addition to his work at Strand Brothers, Chris Strand has been instrumental helping Austin Energy formulate and implement policies to encourage energy efficiency.
“We were part of the effort to build what was then called a conservation power plant,” Strand recalled. Through low-interest loans and rebates for energy-efficient equipment, and improvements like insulation and ductwork repair, we pursued Austin Energy’s goal of conserving enough electricity to eliminate or delay the need for a new power plant.”
Unlike traditional heating and air conditioning contractors, Strand has focused on what he terms as the ‘Whole House’ approach to energy conservation.
Stand pointed out, “It doesn’t do much good to install a highly efficient, 16-SEER system in a home if there’s gaping holes in the ductwork. The cooling and heating system is just one part of the equation. To get the most comfortable living environment and lowest possible cooling bills you’ve also got to look at things like insulation, solar shading, radiant barriers…the whole house.” That’s the business we’ll be in at Stan’s.
Chris Strand is joined at Stan’s by his brother Tom Strand, his sister Kate Strand Bennett, and his mother Caroline Strand. Strand’s long-time co-worker, John Williams, is now the general manager at Stan’s. Stan Johnson remains with the company specializing in new construction.
