SM Media, a division of Strategic Marketing Academy, Inc., announced a special promotion for the month of February 2012. The company goal is to allow small businesses an easier entry into the mobile marketing arena.

SM Media has been creating effective and affordable websites for small businesses. In the last year, the emphasis on mobile optimized websites has been steadily increasing. Many of large companies have led the field by creating mobile websites that can be easily accessed on majority of smart phones.

“This is not surprising,” says Katerina Williamson, the president of Strategic Marketing Academy. “The latest stats are truly amazing. According to CBS news, there are more than 5 billion cell phones in use worldwide, and about 1 billion of these are capable of connecting to the internet. In fact, there are more internet-connected mobile devices than there are desktop and laptops combined.”

While any type of business could benefit from having a mobile optimized website, for some types of businesses, it is critical to become mobile. For some businesses, such as restaurants and hotels, not having a mobile website will soon become a huge problem.

Katerina Williamson educates small business owners on the correct usage of mobile websites. Unfortunately, designing a mobile website can be challenging due to many variations between different mobile devices. “Business owners need to understand that a mobile website should use completely different principles that their regular site uses,” says Williamson. “The goal of a desktop version of a website is to create an interactive, attention-grabbing experience that presents a business as the best solution to customer’s needs. This is often achieved by using multi-media, extensive educational resources and relationship building through blogging and social media integration.”

A mobile website, on the other hand, has to have a simple, easy to navigate layout and provide the most critical information about the business, such as contact info, products or services, location, opening hours and a click-to-call feature. Images should be kept to a minimum since many mobile devices have slow processors and download speeds. Many mobile devices do not have a full-sized keyboard, so the mobile website needs to be optimized for touch screens by using large buttons and simple navigation.

With many small businesses feeling the impact of the weak economy, SM Media is running a special promotion for the month of February 2012 and make a mobile website affordable to any small business owner.
