Local business owners that do not market on Facebook are losing significant business to their competitors that do.
Nashville, TN (PRWEB) February 29, 2012
Feeling the impact of weaker economy and strapped for cash and time, local business owners are turning to free and low-cost social media platforms to market their businesses. It's not surprising that Facebook, the world's largest social networking site, is on top of the list of preferred tools.
Katerina Williamson, the marketing expert at Strategic Marketing Academy, says that Facebook is a networking platform that cannot be looked at as the latest fad by business owners. "Instead, local entrepreneurs should realize that they have a powerful and very cost-effective tool at their disposal. All they have to do is learn how to use it, " she said.
Recently, Williamson taught a social media and online marketing class for the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce University. She emphasized that there are many misconceptions and mistakes that are prevalent when it comes to Facebook marketing by local businesses.
"I see 80-90% of local business owners that start marketing on Facebook making the same mistakes," Williamson said in a recent interview. "These mistakes undermine their efforts and make their Facebook promotions completely ineffective. It leaves those business owners wondering why they have bought into the hype and wasted their precious time trying to market through social media. They often give up not realizing close they were to opening the flood gates of laser targeted leads and increased sales. All they needed was the knowledge on how to tweak their setup and how to effectively interact with their fans to make a big difference in their business."
With over 500 million people on Facebook, 50 percent of which log in every day, Facebook is a force that cannot be ignored. Most of the well known companies and organizations have now switched their marketing emphasis to social media. Google has been very open about placing more weight on social media in generating search results. Local business owners that do not market on Facebook are losing significant business to their competitors that do.
