Hot items for spring include monster and alien themed, Nickelodeon licensed footwear.

Toledo area Stride Rite stores see increased demand for themed footwear, licensed product in 2009

Children's footwear retailer Stride Rite of Toledo has seen strong retail sales this spring, thanks at least in part to strong demand for kid-friendly, themed footwear and licensed products.

Among the hottest selling items are Robeez brand soft-soled baby shoes featuring Funky Monsters and Baby Aliens. "It seems as if the new Monsters vs. Aliens movie is causing a renewed interest in not-so-scary versions of the mythical creatures," said Alex Curavo, Marketing Manager for Stride Rite of Toledo. "For baby girls, butterflies, flowers and kittens still seem to be the most popular, especially among grandparents who are looking for gift ideas for birthdays or Easter."

Other hot items this spring include the company's new line of licensed Nickelodeon shoes, and Stride Rite shoes featuring real SuperBalls in the heels. For girls, sandals featuring embroidered flowers and light-colored running shoes continue to be staples of spring fashion.

Stride Rite of Toledo has seen a double-digit increase in early season sales, an increase which is at least partially attributed to a strong product line, the closing of a Stride Rite retail store in Monroe, MI, and the launch of the company's new retail website. Other factors include a late Easter and stronger demand for sandals and dress shoes versus the same period last year.
