As a result, the plaintiff suffered metal ion poisoning from fretting and corrosion of the recalled Rejuvenate modular-neck stem, forcing her to undergo revision surgery.
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 14, 2012
The first Stryker hip lawsuit against Stryker Orthopaedics, manufacturer of the recalled Rejuvenate and ABG II hip implants, was filed in New Jersey Superior Court, Bergen County on August 8, 2012, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports.* The plaintiff filing the Stryker hip recall lawsuit alleges that the Rejuvenate modular-neck stem, which was subject to the July 2012 Stryker hip recall, shed metal debris into her bloodstream. As a result, the plaintiff suffered metal ion poisoning from fretting and corrosion of the recalled Rejuvenate modular-neck stem, forcing her to undergo revision surgery. The Stryker hip recall lawsuit further alleges that the plaintiff developed complications such as pseudotumors, bone necrosis, and soft tissue problems due to metallosis.
Stryker Hip Recall Lawsuit Filed On Heels Of July 2012 Recall
In July 2012, after receiving reports of complications and early failure rates, Stryker Orthopaedics issued a voluntary recall of its Rejuvenate and ABG II modular-neck hip stems. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) received more than 60 adverse event reports associated with the Stryker hip implants. When issuing the recall, the company noted that the Rejuvenate and ABG II modular-neck stems were prone to fretting and/or corrosion, which can result in adverse local tissue reactions manifesting with pain and/or swelling.
