The complications detailed by Dr. Zann in the report echo those allegedly suffered by our Stryker hip recall clients.
New York, New York (PRWEB) April 02, 2013
A Florida surgeon who has performed dozens of hip revision surgeries related to the Stryker hip recall for Rejuvenate and ABG II Modular-Neck Hips Stems recently told the Palm Beach Post that he fears the failure rate associated with the hip implant components could reach 50 percent, Bernstein Liebhard LLP notes. According to the report, Dr. Robert Zann implanted roughly 400 of the affected hip devices prior to the announcement of the Stryker Rejuvenate recall in July 2012. Over the past year, he has removed 100 of the failed hip systems, and expects to perform an additional 100 revisions in the future, the Palm Beach Post said.*
“The complications detailed by Dr. Zann in the report echo those allegedly suffered by our Stryker hip recall clients. If he is right about the revision rate, the Stryker Rejuvenate recall would represent one of the most serious medical device recalls in recent history,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing the victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is actively filing Stryker Rejuvenate lawsuits on behalf of alleged victims of Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems.
Stryker Rejuvenate Recall
The Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems were recalled in July 2012, after data indicated the metal components were prone to fretting and corrosion at the modular-neck junction. Stryker is recommending that all patients fitted with the recalled components undergo metal ion testing and cross sectional imaging to ensure their hips are functioning properly, even if they are not experiencing symptoms of a failing hip implant. **
According to the Palm Beach Post report, Stryker hip complications observed by Dr. Zann include measurable metal contamination on blood tests, and painful, fluid-filled pseudotumors around the artificial joints. According to Bernstein Liebhard LLP, the recall has already prompted dozens of patients to file Stryker hip recall lawsuits in federal and state courts around the country. Court records indicate that at least 81 Stryker Rejuvenate lawsuits are pending in a consolidated litigation recently established in New Jersey’s Bergen County Superior Court. (In re Stryker Rejuvenate Hip Stem and the ABG II Modular Hip Stem Litigation, No. 296) Plaintiffs in federally-filed Stryker hip recall claims have also petitioned the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation for transfer of all similar federal cases to the U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota for pretrial proceeding. According to that petition, at least 30 claims have been filed since the Stryker Rejuvenate recall in various federal jurisdictions. Individuals who have suffered hip implant failures, metal poisoning, pain, or revision surgery allegedly due to the recalled Rejuvenate and ABG II components may be entitled to file a Stryker hip recall lawsuit to obtain compensation for their medical care, pain and suffering, and other damages.
