With just a little imagination, children can transform a blank piece of paper into a masterpiece.

To celebrate National Encourage a Young Writer Day on April 10, Overnight Prints, Inc. (ONP), a web-to-print solutions company, invited young writers to submit stories about the spring season. Las Vegas-area students participated in the Student Storyteller Contest from April 10-21.

Young writers ranging from 8 to 12 years of age submitted fictional tales and autobiographies about Easter egg hunts, garden insects and spring vacations.

“With just a little imagination, children can transform a blank piece of paper into a masterpiece,” said Brett Heap, founder, Overnight Prints. “We were thrilled with the level of creativity these student writers demonstrated, from describing their spring break adventures to creating original stories.”

Roger Martinez, clubhouse director, Montandon Boys & Girls Club of Southern Nevada, encourages healthy physical and mental states through academy and physical play programs as well as participation in the writing contest.

“My objective, in conjunction with the Boys & Girls Club, is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens,” Martinez explained. “I want to create an atmosphere that will help shape the healthy, social, selfless and morally good figures of tomorrow who will one day come back to their communities and both inspire those less fortunate and help beautify troubled neighborhoods.”

Overnight Prints named Monica Jean of Las Vegas the contest winner for Most Creative Story. The 11-year-old wrote a short story titled “The Magic Spring Flower” about a girl who planted her own garden from colorful flower seeds. The young writer received prizes featuring posters, bookmarks, notepads and stationery personalized with her name.

All participants received a commemorative bookmark and printed booklet of illustrated stories. For more information on community outreach programs, follow Overnight Prints on Twitter at @overnightprints or on Facebook at facebook.com/overnightprints
