From June 14 to July 15, participating college students will have the unique opportunity to take international business courses while getting hands-on exposure to Shanghai's international businesses and global practices. Administered by study abroad organization CISabroad, this summer study abroad program provides practical and experiential international business courses in English, a Mandarin language course, and a Chinese culture course. When students aren't learning through visits to multi-national corporations based in Shanghai, teaching takes places on an urban campus where students can interact with local Chinese students. Excursions to important historic sites in Shanghai and throughout the region provide students with lasting impressions of such a diverse country. The program culminates with students giving final presentations to Chinese business managers.
“Our goal was to offer a program that provides an exceptional learning opportunity for students to meet with leaders in Chinese firms and be able to discuss the current and future aspects of doing business in a global environment,” says Jeff Palm, Executive Director of CISabroad. “We are excited to be able to offer students a short-term summer program in such a vibrant environment - both culturally and economically - as Shanghai. Excellent faculty, great support, and comprehensive program inclusions all for under $5,000 make this a great value.” Jeff’s background in Chinese student recruitment for US institutions has informed CISabroad’s programming in-country.
The program price of $4,790 includes tuition and fees, shared accommodation, excursions in Shanghai, a trip to the Great Wall and Beijing, visits to local businesses, medical and accident insurance, and 24/7 in-country support.
International business courses are taught by faculty from Jacksonville University, an AACSB accredited business college. Topics are all international in focus with a specific emphasis on China, and include globalization of industry, cross-cultural management, and international human resources management. Business studies in the classroom and cultural observations are then applied as students meet with business leaders to discuss contemporary topics facing leaders in the increasingly intertwined global marketplace.
