Clearwater, FL (PRWEB) October 13, 2008
Sunbelt Software, a leading provider of Windows security and management software, today announced the top ten most prevalent spyware and malware threats for the month of September. The report, compiled from monthly scans performed by Sunbelt's award-winning antispyware tool, CounterSpy™, and its new anti-malware solution, VIPRE™ Antivirus + Antispyware, is a service of the Sunbelt Software Malware Research Labs.
A new threat that appears for the first time in the top ten lists includes the Trojan.TDSServ threat. Trojan.TDSServ is a Trojan installed with rootkit-specific techniques designed to hide the software presence in the system. The Trojan also is used to block access to security sites.
The results represent the number of times a particular spyware or malware infection was detected during CounterSpy and VIPRE scans that report back to Sunbelt's community of opt-in users.
The top ten most prevalent spyware threats for the month of September are:
6. Antivirus XP 2008 (Winifixer) 0.85%
8.Ultimate SecuritySuite 0.72%
