Loudoun Earns Bragging Rights for Having World’s Fastest Hotel “Think of the Embassy Suites Atrium as a Super-Fast Hot Spot”

Today at the 1st Annual Home Fair hosted by Dulles Areas Association of REALTORS®, the Embassy Suites located off Waxpool Road officially unveiled the arrival of the world’s fastest hotel Internet connectivity.

Dulles and Ashburn, VA (Vocus/PRWEB ) June 15, 2009 -- Today at the 1st Annual Home Fair hosted by Dulles Areas Association of REALTORS®, the Embassy Suites located off Waxpool Road officially unveiled the arrival of the world’s fastest hotel Internet connectivity. Through a unique partnership with Network Strategies, Inc., the Embassy Suites affords lightning-fast Internet thus enabling guests to perform data-hogging uploads or downloads in a FLASH!

While typical download speeds using Wi-Fi at the average U.S. hotel are between 756 kilobits per second (Kbit/s) to 3.0 megabits per second (Mbps), the average guest experiences speeds far slower, because limited bandwidth is sliced-up and then pulled-away by other users sharing the same connection. By comparison, the Embassy Suites Dulles North/Loudoun’s standard Internet connection speed is approximately 130 times faster than the ordinary hotel!

“Think of our offering as the world’s fastest hot spot,” said Greg Miller spokesperson for the Embassy Suites Dulles North. “From guest feedback over the past year, we know that fast and reliable Internet connectivity is an extremely valuable amenity - particularly connections that do not diminish with traffic. We are excited to offer travelers and locals something that cannot be matched anywhere else in the world.”
Each day, the number of video applications requiring fast broadband response is skyrocketing. Accessing popular sites such as YouTube® and Hulu® and downloading from these sites is slow and painful using a hotel’s typical service. And, bad goes to worse when trying to perform downloads via wireless (Wi-Fi) connections.

In addition, business travelers need to stay fully productive with complete access to remote applications and streaming technologies while away from their office. The Embassy Suites hotel located in the heart of tech-savvy Northern Virginia is the first hotel to roll out new super-speeds throughout its public areas. Best of all, the Embassy Suites Dulles North’s “Atrium Wi-Fi” connection is free of any charge to the user.

For the past two weeks, the Embassy Suites Dulles North hotel has been testing the application which is now ready for full deployment. Guests who have already used its “Super-Fast Hot Spot” Wi-Fi are impressed.

“When I downloaded my music and shows, I couldn’t believe the speed,” said Mr. Ted Twyman visiting the hotel from Las Vegas, Nevada while on business with Greenline Foods. “The files download faster than I can change the channel on my brand-new digital television at home! Using the Embassy Suites Wi-Fi, I was able to download a full-length high-definition movie in just a minute. By comparison, that is much faster than even my home-based FiOS can do.”

Secure Connections Inside Meeting Rooms Are Super-Fast
In addition to Wi-Fi, the hotel has also made secure “Super-Fast Internet Connectivity” available within its meeting rooms. Using a special CAT6 cable connection, the meeting planner can arrange to have a fully-secured connection with unmatched speeds for their presentations. Their secure “Super-Fast Internet Connectivity” has a standard transmitting data speed of 100 Mbps. That level of speed is on the order of 65 times faster than a typical T1 line or 130 times faster than current broadband speeds (and 1,800 times faster than the “Slowskys” dial-up connection). For venues that require bandwidth-intensive transmissions, the bandwidth-on-demand (BOD) is scalable up to one full Gigabits per second. At the Embassy Suites Dulles North/Loudoun, presenters won’t have to worry that their production could be disrupted due to Internet speed irregularities from too many users.

Technical Details and Comparative Speeds:
Broadband Internet access is high data rate Internet access—typically contrasted with dial-up access over a 56k modem.
Although various minimum bandwidths have been used in definitions of broadband, ranging up from 64 kilobits per second (kbit/s) up to 1.0 Megabits per second (Mbps), the United States FCC defines broadband as anything above 768 kbit/s.
DSL refers to Digital Subscriber Line. The download speed of consumer DSL services ranges from 256 kbit/s to 24,000 kbit/s, depending on DSL technology, line conditions and service level implemented.
FiOS refers to High-Speed Fiber-Optic Broadband Internet. The download speed of FiOS can be as low as the standard plan rate of 768 kbit/s and up to 30 Mbps for a super premium plan.
Upload versus Download. Upload speeds on DSL and FiOS are generally half as fast as the Download speed.

A T1 line refers to a specific type of fiber optic telephone line that can carry more data than traditional copper telephone lines, although a T1 line might be made out of copper too. Today that standard is slowly being upgraded to fiber optic lines, (lines made of bundled glass fibers); capable of broadband digital data transfer speeds that far exceed copper wires. While standard copper telephone lines can transfer data and voice at a rate of about 30,000 bits per second (30 kbps) using a dial-up modem, a T1 line can transmit 1.544 megabits per second (a T1 line service is up to 60 times faster than a traditional modem).

Conference rooms at the Embassy Suites Dulles North are hardwired with CAT6 cable and have standard bandwidth capacity of 100 Mbps for both Upload and Download needs (over 60 times faster than a fiber optic T1). The bandwidth on demand is scalable up to 1 Gigobit (GB) of connectivity.

Public area Wi-Fi at the Embassy Suites (referred to as “Atrium Wi-Fi) provides standard bandwidth capacity of 100 Mbps (60 times faster than T1) which is promotable to 200Mbps as needed. As importantly, the Upload and Download speeds are equal, and the “Atrium Wi-Fi” is FREE to all users.

The new “Super-Fast Hot Spot” Internet Connectivity arranged through Network Strategies, Inc. for Embassy Suites Dulles North is independent of the hotel guest room infrastructure provided by Hilton via its Stay-Connected service.
