first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen.
(Vocus) February 10, 2009
Americans observe the federal holiday Presidents' Day each year to celebrate and honor the first president, George Washington and the 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, who were both born in February.
The first President of the United States, George Washington, was at his funeral remembered as "first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen." Washington, a devoted patriot, dedicated his life to the triumph of America through his unwavering vision for a new democracy. As a military commander he inspired his troops; as president he inspired our young nation.
Abraham Lincoln led the U.S. through one of its greatest struggles, the Civil War, and continues today to be admired for his staunch commitment to honesty, integrity and dedication to civil rights.
In remembering these great American presidents united in service, Subscriptions for Soldiers asks Americans to remember current U.S. soldiers who have dedicated their lives to the ideas of these great leaders through their service to our country.
