This version of the Newsletter includes articles on getting stranded in a car during the winter season, fashioning soap from an unlikely source, and ensuring water is safe to drink using a very convenient method.

The main article highlights the necessary steps to survive an extended stay in a car when it breaks down during the cold and snowy winter months. Joe uses his own experiences to provide “a few tips that could help you survive, should you be left stranded in your car at some point in the cold.”

“I personally drove 600+ miles over the weekend, much of it through relatively remote stretches of highway. As we passed over 80 miles without seeing another car on the road I began to wonder just how my wife and I would fair if we were to become stranded in our car,” wrote Joe in the article.

Joe said in the article that it’s also vital to have an emergency kit in every vehicle. “You can purchase a pre-made car safety kit or build your own. If you decide to purchase a kit don’t just store it in your trunk, make sure you are intimately familiar with the contents and how know how to use them!” wrote Joe.

The Survival Tip of the Day shares the process of using wood ash as an antibacterial soap. “It’s actually a very simple process that has been used in some form or another for a very long time,” said Joe in the article.

“This type of soap making was initially observed in ancient Babylon (2800 B.C) and even though we have refined the process since then, it never hurts to know how to get back to the basics,” the article said.

Practical Prepper is the Newsletter section that highlights a useful survival tools, and discusses its effectiveness in the eyes of Joe, a seasoned prepper himself. This time around, Joe reviews Potable Aqua, a water purifying tablet found in one of his pre-organized emergency kits.

“I went through one of the premade GoBags that I have bought and decided to test out one of the water purification tablets by Potable Aqua. It’s been a few days and no stomach issues, so it looks like they work,” wrote Joe.

The article goes through the typical pros and cons list, then determines that Potable Aqua tablets “should be added into every survival kit, provided that it is done alongside several other water purification methods. In a survival situation redundancy can save your life.”
