Study Shows Lawn Fertilizers & Chemicals Could Increase Risk for Cancer among Men

The list of negatives associated with owning and maintaining a natural lawn just got a little longer thanks to a recent study that shows an increased risk for cancer and disease among those who regularly handle lawn chemicals and fertilizers. Although men are primarily at increased risks for the medical problems, family members and pets could also be in harm’s way.

We feel that artificial turf can provide all of the benefits of a natural lawn, with none of the costs and risks associated with it.

Many men don’t use eye protection or ear protection when mowing or edging their lawn, but a recent study has shown that projectiles may no longer be the greatest risk associated with owning and maintaining a natural lawn year round. The chemicals used to fertilize a lawn, keeping it green and weed free, have been discovered to put men, women, children, and pets at an increased risk for medical problems including cancer.

The study was first referenced in Men’s Health Magazine and the news spread rapidly from there. “Today’s homeowners are looking for alternatives to a natural lawn in terms of maintenance costs, time commitments, and now health risks” said Marc Morningstar an artificial turf manufacturer from Phoenix, Arizona. “We feel that artificial turf can provide all of the benefits of a natural lawn, with none of the costs and risks associated with it.”

In addition to keeping your family clear of pesticides and harmful lawn chemicals, synthetic turf can significantly reduce your water bill, especially in arid climates such as the Southwestern United States. The time and maintenance costs associated with synthetic turf are also much lower. With synthetic turf, you can literally spend all of your time enjoying your lawn instead of maintaining it. Other benefits of a synthetic lawn include a reduction in allergies and no grass stains on your kid’s clothes.
