Syrian Expatriates Organization rejects the recent attempts by the UN & Arab league Envoy, Kofi Annan, to involve Iran in the efforts to end the escalating violence in Syria. According to CNN, Mr. Annan is quoted, in regard to his visit to Tehran as saying, “’to discuss the situation in Syria’ and "to see how we can work together to help settle the situation."
On July 8th-2012, in an interview with newspaper Le Monde, Mr. Annan acknowledged the failing of the international efforts to find a political solution to violence in Syria, which claim more than 17,000 lives and displaced about 500,000 Syrians.
“Iran’s role in the Syrian conflict is disgraceful. By supporting the regime’s crimes against humanity, Iran has made itself complicit in the massacre of thousands of Syrians,” says SEO Chairman Iyad Azrak. The government of Iran has actively assisted the Assad regime by providing heavy weaponry, surveillance equipment, and the technology to monitor e-mail, cell phones and social media. SEO holds the Iranian government culpable in the atrocities committed by the Assad regime and in the escalation of violence in Syria. SEO urges the international community represented by the UN to stop Iran's interference in Syria, and to help assure the termination of Iran’s support to the Assad regime.
