It didn't get going until 2002 and is now celebrated worldwide as a fun games day. Sadly the dream of a worldwide national holiday has not materialised! However, for "swashbuckling" entertainment the landlubbers at Blockbuster.co.uk have put together a list of the top 20 "Talk Like a Pirate Day" adventure movies about pirates for DVD rental both online and from Blockbuster stores.

However, for "swashbuckling" entertainment the landlubbers at Blockbuster.co.uk have put together a list of the top 20 "Talk Like a Pirate Day" adventure movies about pirates for DVD rental both online and from Blockbuster stores.

Ahoy all film buffs and start looking at this list! There is plenty of booty, doubloons, piece o' eight and treasure. Famous pirates (sometime known as gentlemen o' fortune) such as Hook, Blackbeard and Jack Sparrow are featured in the list. "Walk the plank" with Peter Pan and go to "Davy Jones' Locker" with Jack Sparrow there is also a lot of "Yo-ho-ho" so have a look a the featured movies.

Featuring near the top of the list are two Pirates of the Caribbean movies; Dead Man's Chest and The Curse of the Black Pearl.

In the Curse of the Black Pearl, the governor's daughter, Elizabeth Swann, is kidnapped by Captain Barbosa and her childhood friend and admirer, Will Turner teams up with pirate Jack Sparrow to save her. However, Barbosa and the crew of his ship, the Black Pearl, are cursed. Trapped in skeletal forms that reveal themselves in moonlight, they intend to use Elizabeth's blood to remove the curse and return them to the land of the living.

In Dead Man's Chest, Lord Cutler Beckett a powerful EITC agent arrests Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner as they are about to be married. They are threatened with execution for aiding Captain Jack Sparrow's escape however he offers clemency in return for Will's help to capture Jack Sparrow. A thrilling action packed movie where Davy Jones' Locker has a place of prominence.

Hook, is a film that focuses on the grown up Peter Pan who has forgotten about his childhood. Captain Hook kidnaps his two children so Peter is forced to return to Neverland to challenge his old enemy Captain Hook. The full animated Peter Pan Walt Disney classic is also included on the list.

The Goonies is about a crazy bunch of misfit kids whose only hope of saving their neighbourhood from greedy developers is to find the lost treasure of a 17th century pirate. With only a dusty map at their disposal and the spirit of adventure they set off on their quest. This movie is good family entertainment.

In Blackbeard's Ghost, Blackbeard has been cursed by his wife so that his spirit constantly lingers between the world of the living and the dead. In an attempt to break the curse, he returns to Earth to enact a good deed, but can he break away from his evil past?

Treasure Island is featured on the list, as Treasure Island, Muppet Treasure Island, and Treasure Planet. Treasure Island is the Robert Louis Stevenson tale brought to life in the Disney tradition. In Muppet Treasure Island, Kermit, Gonzo, Rizzo the Rat and Miss Piggy hit the high seas in this adaption of the classic adventure in which young Jim Hawkins tries to keep his coveted treasure map from the dastardly Long John Silver. Treasure Planet is an updated science fiction version of the classic tale. Jim Hawkins is given a holographic map by Billy Bones and is warned to beware the pirate Cyborg. Jim joins the crew of the space galleon RLS Legacy in search of distant planets and buried loot.

Dodgeball, A True Underdog may appear to be a strange choice for a list of films about pirates, but it does include a lot of "talking like a pirate" so it is an apt choice. Peter La Fleur is an underachiever who owns a run-down gym which has a clientele to be ashamed of. It comes as no surprise when White Goodman decides to take over the place and sends in attorney Kate Veach to finalise the deal. Unfortunately for White, Peter's charms win Kate over and she helps him try to beat the odds and save 'Average Joes'.

Other films on the list include, Yellowbeard, the comic saga of an infamous pirate who has just been released from prison and Shipwrecked, the epic story of a young sailor who embarks on a voyage that takes him from the snowy slopes of his native Norway to the stormy South Pacific.

The final entry to the list is "Ross Kemp on Pirates" a documentary about today's real life pirates which are still a force to be reckoned with.
