York cinema is celebrating the two successful weeks of Vishwaroopam. Vishwaroopam which opened on January 24th has been a steady success for York cinema. The movie has been playing to full houses and has been the first breakout movie for newly opened York cinema. It is bittersweet for York cinema because the success of ‘Vishwaroopam’ has taken away sales from the other two movies they are playing.
In his latest flick, Kamal Hassan is diving into a sensitive subject dealing with terrorism and the Taliban. From the beginning, the movie has been facing opposition in Tamil Nadu in India from the Muslim community. They feel that the movie portrays Muslim in a bad light. Initially the movie was banned in Tamil Nadu but after a number of court proceedings, the ban was overturned and ‘Vishwaroopam’ was released on February 7th. Kamal Hassan released a statement thanking all his fans, industry insiders and the local government in allowing him to pass this hurdle.
York cinema opened it door in hopes of taking advantage of the mass multiculturalism which persist in the Greater Toronto Area. Its goal is to bring the cinemas to an underserved market, in a geographically comfortable location. York Cinema plays movies in a number of languages which includes but not limited to Hindi, Tamil, Persian, Telugu, Filipino and any other underserved markets. In bringing this service to the market, York Cinema hopes that they can help multiculturalism thrive and profit from its growth.
York cinema, which is located in Richmond Hill, opened it door for business on December 14th. Vishwaroopam has been the first hit for York cinema, who are hoping for more movies like this. ‘Vishwaroopam’ has been a big hit for Kamal Hassan in Canada and other countries around the globe.
