Tampa Social Security disability benefits attorney Lawrence Disparti of Disparti Law Group, P.A., gave his support today to a new initiative from the country’s governors that is aimed at getting more jobs for disabled citizens.
Delaware Governor Jack Markell announced the initiative, “A Better Bottom Line: Employing People with Disabilities,” when he recently took the reins as chairman of the National Governors Association (NGA), according to the Huffington Post.
As part of the effort, the NGA will provide a toolkit to help states create programs for hiring people with disabilities, the Post said. The initiative also will promote partnerships with businesses to create new opportunities for disabled workers.
“I applaud our nation’s governors for recognizing the fact that many of our disabled citizens want to be out there working, but many of them are never given the chance,” Disparti said. “This initiative proposes a public-private partnership that could change this reality and have a positive impact on people’s lives.”
Disparti pointed to U.S. Department of Labor statistics that show that 18 percent of Americans with a disability are employed as compared to 64 percent of those without disabilities.
The NGA initiative will try to close that gap by consulting with businesses and disability advocates, drafting state-specific action plans and forming partnerships with businesses with strong records of hiring workers with disabilities, the Post reports.
“Without a doubt, this is great news for citizens with disabilities,” said Disparti, whose firm handles Social Security Disability (SSD) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits claims for clients in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area and across Florida. “However, it addresses only half the problem. Many who are disabled are simply unable to work because of their disabilities. Those citizens need our support as well.”
Due to their circumstances, disabled workers, survivors, elderly citizens and those with special financial needs across Florida rely on benefits from the U.S. Social Security Administration and related state programs, Disparti said.
The Council on Disability Awareness estimates that more than one-quarter of today’s 20-year-olds will become disabled before reaching retirement, the veteran Tampa disability benefits claims attorney pointed out.
Disparti said these disabled citizens need benefits that can help pay for their daily living costs and other expenses, which include benefits through programs such as Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits (SSD), Supplemental Security Income Benefits (SSI), Disabled Veterans Benefits, Disabled Widow and Widower’s Benefits and Disabled Adult Child Benefits (DAC), he said.
“Our law firm will continue to work hard on behalf of these individuals to secure the benefits they need and the quality of life they deserve,” he said.
