Adolescents have special needs and Paradigm Malibu works to meet these needs in a variety of ways

Illicit drug use among teenagers continues at high rates and changing perceptions and attitudes toward marijuana play a role, this according to the 2012 Monitoring the Future survey (MonitoringTheFuture.org). Synthetic marijuana also plays a role while non medical use of over-the-counter medications and prescription drugs continue to be a major problem.
"Any parent who suspects their teen has a drug problem should immediately look for a qualified adolescent drug treatment facility," Cole Rucker of Paradigm Malibu said.
Adolescents undergo many changes during a relatively short period of time. Complicated emotional conflicts tend to accompany these change and teens may often turn to drugs or alcohol to provide much needed relief.
"To ensure successful treatment, a teen drug abuse program must address the underlying issues, rather than focusing on the behaviors often seen with addiction," Mr. Rucker said.
When a teen enters Paradigm Malibu, he or she undergoes a psychiatric evaluation by a board certified adolescent psychiatrist who specializes in addiction medicine. Each patient also receives a comprehensive psychological evaluation, which is completed by a licensed clinical psychologist. Results of these evaluations are combined with on-going assessments from licensed marriage and family therapists. These initial evaluations help to identify the specific treatment modalities with the greatest likelihood for successful, long-term recovery.
"Paradigm Malibu conducts these assessments and evaluations to obtain a clear picture of what may have lead to the addiction," Mr. Rucker continues.
While at Paradigm Malibu, teens regularly participate in therapy. Individual, group and family therapy sessions are conducted on a continual basis to ensure all family members remain involved in the treatment of the teen.
"For those families unable to conduct face-to-face family therapy sessions due to geographical, work or medical constraints, Paradigm Malibu offers video or telephonic sessions. Our goal is to provide the teen with the best possible treatment and our staff members are willing to take any steps needed to ensure that this is the case," Mr. Rucker said.
Paradigm Malibu offers many other types of therapy to help teens recover from addiction and alcoholism. Equine therapy and animal assisted therapy are two ancillary therapy options often employed at Paradigm. For those who enjoy expressing themselves creatively, drama therapy, poetry therapy and dance movement therapy are other options available.
"The wide range of therapy options offered helps to augment our core drug and alcohol recovery program. Adolescents have special needs and Paradigm Malibu works to meet these needs in a variety of ways," Mr. Rucker states.
Paradigm Malibu remains the only residential teen drug treatment program in Southern California owned and operated by licensed mental health professionals. The core team consists of professionals with over 15 years of experience working together. The program boasts the highest staff to client ratio and offers the widest range of clinical services available. The program uses a uniquely qualified team of adolescent mental health and teen drug experts and provides a safe, nurturing environment for clients to promote positive change. All therapy sessions are conducted by certified or licensed professionals who are trained to identify and treat the underlying causes of addiction. This differs from most programs, which focus on the behaviors of addiction rather than the causes. The Malibu, California site offers privacy without being so remote as to compromise safety.
